The Muhlenberg Township Cemetery Sexton performs a variety of administrative, technical, and/or maintenance work for the Township Cemeteries.
Works under the general supervision of the Muhlenberg Township Trustees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Have knowledge of, and follows cemetery policies and procedures.
Follows safety procedures and practices.
Oversees the operation of the Township cemeteries which includes:
Mowing, trimming, brush removal, leveling and loaming sunken graves.
Maintains and repairs machinery and equipment.
Sells grave plots, orders graves opened and closed and schedules burials, receives burial permits and collects fees for burials, deeds, and foundations.
Researches old burial records.
Accurately lays out the gravesites.
Arranges for the placement of headstone footers.
Assist with the application of herbicides and pesticides.
Overseeing the straightening and repair of fallen and broken gravestones and replace damaged foundations.
Ensuring placement of flags on graves of veterans.
Assists with Memorial Day and Wreaths Across America activities.
May need to perform weekend, on-call, and holiday work when necessary to make burial arrangements and monitor/oversee burials.
Monitoring and reporting any non-compliance of policies, rules and regulations to the trustees.
Assists with special projects as requested by the Board of Trustees.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED and a valid Ohio driver’s license.
Exercise discretion, tact and diplomacy at all times when working with bereaved families on burial arrangements and other functions associated with assisting the public.
Must have basic computer skills and must be able to operate basic office equipment such as fax machine, copy machine, computer, printer scanner, telephone and calculator.
Must be able to exercise sound judgement in evaluation situations and making decisions.
$33,000 to $41,600 per year depending on experience
